Lily Billie Mees, age 81, of 948 Illinois Ave SW, Huron, died Friday, November 4, 2005, at her residence. Her Memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, November 7, at the Welter Funeral Home with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. There will be no visitation. Lily Mees was born Lily G. Magness on September 2, 1924, to Clarence and Gina (Haugse) Magness on a farm by Colton, SD. The family lived in Garretson, SD and a farm near Summit, SD. Her father died when she was 9 years old and they moved to Marvin, SD. On September 6, 1940, Billie married John Kuper and they moved to Huron from Sioux Falls in 1950. On December 23, 1967, Billie married Milton Mees. Billie was one of the original 7 women hired to work at Ravens Huron plant in May 1966. She was the plant manager from 1978 until she retired in 1987. In retirement she continued to enjoy doing seamstress projects, hunting, fishing and cooking. She also learned a new hobby of woodcrafts. She was a member of the American Legion Post #116 Auxiliary of Alpena She is survived by 3 sons, Terry (Barb) Kuper of Huron, Dennis (Patty) Kuper of Williams Bay, WI, and Ken (Sharla) Mees of Huron; 1 daughter, Marsha (Brad) Furness of Clark, SD; 12 grandchildren, Amy (Jim) Sanders, Aaron Kuper, Darby Spain, Troy Waters, Kelsey Mees, Dustin (Gina) Mees, Chad (Tara) Thomas, Chris (Angie) Thomas, Josh Thomas, Mick thomas, Micah Thomas, and Danielle Thomas; 15 great grandchildren; and a sister Jean McDonald of Citrus Heights, CA. She was preceded in death by her 2 husbands, her parents, a brother, Norman Magness and 3 sisters, Ruby Watters, Sadie Anderson and Dolly Bennett.
