Lilly "Lee" Wanken, age 105, of 899 13th St. SW, Huron, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. Her funeral mass will be at 11:30 AM Thursday, October 7, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Donald Imming officiating. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery at Redfield. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the mass at the church Thursday morning. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:00 PM Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Lilly E. Keller was born on July 17, 1899, to John and Christine (Grossman) Keller on a farm near Redfield, SD. She was the third of nine children. Lilly, known as "Lee", attended elementary and high school in Redfield. Following completion of her formal education she worked in various homes in the area. On October 2, 1918, Lee married Mathew F. Wanken at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. They lived near Redfield for a short period of time until they bought a farm 7' miles from Rockham, SD. Her husband, Mathew, died on August 3, 1962, and Lee lived on the farm for a few more years prior to moving to Redfield where she worked as the housekeeper for Fr. Noel Power at St. Bernard's Catholic Church for 4 years. In 1969, Lee moved to Huron where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Jim Pollock, until April of 2004, when she entered the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home. She was a past member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church at Redfield, a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish at Huron, and the Huron Area Senior Center. Her many interests over the years included dancing, Bingo, and playing cards. Her love for travel took her to every state in the union except Hawaii, all of the provinces of Canada, plus Germany, Ireland, and Switzerland. She is survived by 2 daughters, Norma Tandberg of Brookings, and Dorothy (Jim) Pollock of Huron; 1 sister, Frances Jensen of Redfield; 7 grandchildren, Valerie (Lloyd) Harry, Roxanne Tandberg, Roger Tandberg, John (Barbara) Pollock, Pat (Dale) Schoemaker, Leo (Beth) Pollock, and Mary (Joel) Terrill; 16 great grandchildren, Robert Harry, Sherri Harry, Lee Harry, Lynn Rau, Dan Rau, John Rau, Corrine (Joel) Kallemeyn, Cristine (Tim) Goldammer, Mathew Pollock, Jeremy Shoemaker, Kristin (Tony) Cronin, Rita Pollock, Charles Pollock, Michael Pollock, James Terrill, and Jacob Terrill; 4 great great grandchildren, Kathryn Rau, Jade Rau, Lilly Rose Rau, and Braidon Rau. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mathew; 1 grandson, James L. Pollock, 1 great great grandson, Tyler Rau; 5 sisters and their husbands, Rose (Ben) Marlow, Lulu (Ed) Behrend, Eva (Ben) Phillips, Caroline (Stacy) Hinshaw, and Helen (Sammy) Wesner; 2 brothers and their wives, Henry (Hazel) Keller, and Fred "Fritz" (Virginia) Keller; and 1 brother-in-law, Roy Jensen.
