Lillian Wintle, age 96, of Omaha, NE, formerly of Huron, SD, died Saturday, July 3, 2010, at Hospice House in Omaha.
Her memorial service will be held on Friday, July 23, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Martha's Episcopal Church, 780 Pinnacle Dr., Papillion, NE.
The burial service of her cremated remains will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Ideal Cemetery in Huron.
There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the Huron Community Scholarship Fund, PO Box 949, Huron, SD 57350.
Lillian Wintle was born Lillian Dale Vanderburg, daughter of John P. and Lillian (Thompson) Vanderburg, on September 9, 1913, in Theresa Township, Beadle County, SD. She graduated from Huron High School, and from South Dakota State University in Brookings with a BA degree in Education.
Lillian married Jack E.Wintle in Brookings. They lived in Baltimore, MD, and Omaha, NE, where Lillian was a teacher, including many years at Kellom and Long elementary schools.
She was a member of Huron Area Senior Center and RSVP program; Huron Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and Past President; Grace Episcopal Church; past member of Northeast Community Action Program; and State SEOO Board of Directors.
She is survived by one son, Rev. Dr. Thomas Wintle of Weston, MA, and his wife Suzanne; daughter-in-law, Jan Wintle of Papillion NE; four grandchildren, Christine Thomas, Omaha; Terri Newton and her husband Christopher, Papillion; Dave Wintle and his wife Jami, Omaha; and John Wintle of Cambridge, MA; and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack; one son, James; and two sisters, Clara Pollman of Freeman, SD, and Muriel Jones of Huron.
