Obituary

Lillian Eggers, age 95, of Huron, SD, died Saturday, April 2, 2011, at her home. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Lillian Eggers was born Lillian Rose Thompson, daughter of Oliver and Agnes (Huber) Thompson, on January 19, 1916, in Watertown, SD. She was employed for many years with Newberry's department store in Huron. After retirement she and Art enjoyed the winters at their home in Mesa, Arizona returning each year to Huron for the beautiful South Dakota summers. Through out her life Lillian was active in numerous organizations and enjoyed many friendships. She was very creative and skilled with needle work, and knitted sweaters and coats for her grandchildren and created all sorts of useful items for the home. For the past few years she lived alone attended by friendly caregivers. She occupied her time with reading and crafts. She is survived by her two sons David (Suzanne) Eggers of Pleasanton, CA, and Carter (Marilyn) Eggers of Ypsilanti, MI; 4 grandchildren, Patrick (Karen) Eggers, Paul (Janice) Eggers, Kristin Eggers, and Leslie (Jeff) Fleckenstein; 5 great grandchildren, Dries Nijenkamp, Maas Nijenkamp, Isabela Eggers, Julia Eggers, and Amilia Eggers. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur on August 23, 2005; sister, Agnes Collins; brother-in-law, Clarence Collins; and grandson-in-law, Erwin Nijenkamp.
