Lillian Roberta Bartel, age 83, of 50 7th St. SE, Huron, SD, died on Friday, October 17, 2008, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.
Her funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 22, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron.
Visitation will be Tuesday, October 21, from 1-8 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday morning.
Lillian R. Parker, the daughter of Ora and Sylvia (Neeman) Parker, was born on October 6, 1925 in Wessington, SD. She attended school at Wessington, SD.
Lillian married Martin A. Bartel on August 30, 1942 in Wessington, SD. They farmed near Wolsey, SD, until moving to Huron in 1961. Lillian worked as a nurse's aide for St John's Hospital, and a clerk for Tempo Department Store. She also did housecleaning for the Traveler's Motel and bartended for Leighton's Lounge before retiring.
Lillian was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wolsey, SD, and Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron for many years. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her grandkids, family, and friends.
Grateful for having shared her life include her 6 children, Gary Bartel of Converse, TX, Gene (Yvette) Bartel of Riverton, WY, Charlotte (Joseph) Grech of Santa Rosa, CA, Stanley Bartel of Katy, TX, Pamela (Mike) Reilly of Huron, SD, and Roberta Bartel (Burdette Drake) of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Colleen) Bartel, Chad (Kim) Erickson, Nathan Bartel, Joshua Reilly, Robert (Donna) Johnson, Ryan Johnson, Brian Bartel, Andrea (Kevin) Stanley, Cary (Ray) Short, Jill (Chad) Harpenau, and Angela Grech; 14 great grandchildren: Zachary, Sara, and Benjamin Stanley; Cameron, Mac, and Griffin Short; Jacob and Matthew Erickson; Andrew Bartel; Jordon, Jennifer, and Tyler Bartel; and Lillian and William Harpenau; her sister, Geneva Spellbring of Sioux Falls, SD; 3 brothers-in-law; 5 sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Martin in 2003; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer Bartel, and infant Mark Erickson; 2 great-grandchildren, infant twins, Matthew and Dillon Erickson; 2 brothers, Lloyd and Burton Parker; and 4 sisters, Ethel Kasper, Evelyn Schwartz, Louella Barrows, and Ardeth Neuharth.
