Obituary

Lila J. Stamp, age 82, of Huron, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at her home in Huron. Her Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron. Visitation, will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Lila Jean Boetel was born on September 25, 1940 to parents Carl and Amanda (Kuehl) Boetel in Huron, South Dakota. Lila and her twin brother, Lyle, joined siblings Norma and Robert. Lila attended Richland Center #3 from kindergarten to 8 th grade. She then attended Cavour High School, graduating in 1958. Lila attended South Dakota State University, graduating in 1962 with her teaching degree. Lila started her career in Sioux Falls, teaching at Patrick Henry Junior High School from 1962-1966. She then taught at Lincoln High School from 1966-1968.

Lila married Richard Stamp on August 31, 1968 in Yale, South Dakota. Lila and Dick made their home in Huron where she taught at Huron College and raised her family. After her teaching career, Lila worked at Walker's Flower Shop and was the owner of Rainbow Flower Shop. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing softball. Lila was inducted into the South Dakota ASA Softball Hall of Fame in 1977. She also was honored for her valuable contributions and superior performance in the game of fastpitch softball by the South Dakota Women's Softball Association in 1978. Lila served as a Pink Lady at Huron Regional Medical Center for many years, volunteering over 100 hours. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron.

Grateful for having shared in Lila's life are her children; Theodore "Ted" Stamp of Marshall, MN and Sarah (Peter) Davidson of Brisbane, Australia; and her twin brother, Lyle (Dee) Boetel of Cavour; sisters-in-law, Marge (Stamp) Thoelke of Britton, SD, Gloria Boetel of Valparaiso, IN, and Dorothy Stamp of Vancouver, WA; brother-in-law, Warren (Gay) Stamp of Vancouver, WA; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, Dick on August 21, 2022; her parents, Carl and Amanda; her siblings, Robert Boetel and Norma Boetel; and her parents-in-law, George and Lucille Stamp; brothers-in-law, Maurice Stamp and Bruce Thoelke.
