Obituary

Letha Trowbridge, age 94, of 1345 Michigan Ave SW, in Huron, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Saturday, July 23, at the Church of Christ with Oris Bryant officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening and Saturday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Saturday afternoon. The family will be present from 4:30 to 6:30 PM Friday at the funeral home. Letha Rubendall was born on September 27, 1910, to Arthur and Mabel (Cheeseman) Rubendall at Mt. Vernon, SD. When she was 2 years old she moved with her family to Highmore, SD, where she attended school and graduated from Highmore High School in 1929. After graduation she remained in Highmore where she worked for the telephone company. In October of 1930, Letha married Leon Perkins at Frederick, SD. They made their home at Frederick, where Letha was a homemaker, but moved around in the construction trade. Leon died on July 12, 1942. On March 15, 1943, Letha married Calvin Trowbridge at Springview, NE. Letha lived at Winner, SD, while Calvin served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II. After his return in 1945, they moved to Huron. Letha worked as a seamstress for the Womens Drapery Store, the Huron Cleaners, and in the 1960s taught sewing classes at the Huron Area Senior Center. Later she worked out of her home as a self-employed seamstress contracting with various clothing stores in Huron. Letha was well into her 80s when she retired as a seamstress. Letha was a caregiver who devoted her life to her family, but also would help her friends and neighbors in need. She entered the Huron Nursing Home on October 1, 1999. She was a member of the Church of Christ, VFW Auxiliary, Colfax Rebekah Lodge #9, and a pinochle club. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and needlework. She is survived by 4 children, M. Rea Struble of Westfield, IN, Iris Nicholas of West Haven, UT, Ivan (Marie) Trowbridge of Wolsey, and Inez (Robert) Muilenburg of Huron; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey (Sheri) Baseley, David (Annette) Baseley, Mark (Julie) Struble, Joni (Phillip) Linville, John Nicholas, Christopher Trowbridge, Chad Trowbridge, Casey Trowbridge, Viola Trowbridge, and Bobbie Muilenburg; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 sister-in-law, Doris Rubendall of Highmore. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands, Leon and Calvin; 1 son-in-law, James Struble; 4 brothers and spouses, Robert (Goldie), Forrest (Laura), Richard, and Quentin; 3 sisters, Eva Rubendall, Ruth (Vernon) Smith, and an infant girl.
