Leslie Loughrige was born Leslie Olivia Hansen on August 12, 1945, to Howard and Edith "Ede" (Appletoft) Hansen in El Centro, CA. As a young child she moved with her family to Nebraska and then to Redfield, SD, where she grew up and attended school. She graduated from Redfield High School in 1963. She attended and graduated from the Dakota Wesleyan X-Ray technology school in Madison in 1965. In 1964, while attending school, Leslie was crowned Snow Queen and subsequently competed in the Miss South Dakota pageant. In 1969, Leslie moved to Lexington, KY, after accepting a position as an x-ray technician at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. She moved to Versailles, KY, to work at Woodford Memorial Hospital and Bluegrass Community Hospital where she was named Employee of the Year for 2006. During her tenure at these hospitals Leslie held the positions of technologist, head technologist, mammographer, and department head. During the 1970's, 80's, and 90's, Leslie maintained a side interest as a 'juried' arts & crafts entrepreneur. Her crafts were often displayed and sold at Kentucky state parks. Although Leslie loved her adopted Kentucky, South Dakota remained the 'home of her heart.' Leslie leaves behind to celebrate her life are her twin brother, Lynne 'Butch' Hansen and his wife Mindy of Sadieville, KY; her long time companion, Marvin Pickett of Versailles, KY; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be deeply missed by all, but especially by her beloved dogs, Henry and Sadie.
