Obituary

Leslie E. French, age 85, of 440 Jersey Ave. NE and formerly of 370 Lawnridge Ave. SE, Huron, died Friday, February 11, 2005 at the Sioux Valley Hospital at Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, February 14th at the Bonilla Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rhonda Wellsandt-Zell officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery at Huron with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call this Sunday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. Leslie Ernest French was born on April 8, 1919, to Carl and Edna (Parkinson) French at Bonilla, SD. He attended Bonilla High School and later he served in the United States Army Signal Corps in the European Theater during World War II. On December 24, 1941, Leslie married Dorothy Galliger at Lake Benton, MN. They made their home on a farm in the Bonilla and Wolsey areas from after World War II until 1968 when they moved to Huron. He worked for the City of Huron until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his four sons, Gary (Donna) French of Watertown, SD, Ronald (Becky) French of Montrose, CO, James (Bonnie) French of Casper, WY and Roger (Margie) French of Windom, MN; one daughter, Kathy Samuelson of Davenport, IA; 13 grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; one sister, Betty (Louis) Farmer of Aberdeen; two brothers, Glenn French of Marysville, WA, and Jack (Gerri) French of Las Palmas, Mexico; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy on January 9, 2001, parents, three brothers, Darrell, Camden Sonny and an infant brother Carol. Casket bearers will be Gina Swanson, Brenda Purdy, Teresa Eastman, Ryan French, Lisa Sexton, Jeffery French, Amy Helfrick, Todd French, Tammy Rempfer, Terri French, David Samuelson, Lori Looney and Michael Samuelson.
