Obituary

LeRoy S. Friedrichsen, age 86, of Huron, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2020 at Avantara-Huron in Huron. His funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at American Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.

Military Honors will be presented by the Huron Veteran's Council. The service will be live streamed through American Lutheran Church Facebook Page, https://www.facebook.com/American-Lutheran-Church-105519481089895/ .

Visitation will be on Friday, September 18, 2020 from 3-6 PM with family present from 5-6 PM at Welter Funeral Home. Please follow CDC guidelines and masks are encouraged. Expressions of Sympathy may be sent to 40754 205 th St., Huron, SD 57350.

LeRoy S. Friedrichsen was born on January 20, 1934 to parents Henry and Helen (Gribble) Friedrichsen on the farm near Sheffield, South Dakota. He attended Sheffield elementary school and graduated from Huron High School in 1952. LeRoy worked on the farm until drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 in the 1 st Calvary Ordinance Supply. LeRoy farmed the rest of his life raising hogs, cattle, and corn until moving to Huron in 2017. He was a township supervisor of Cavour Township for 36 years, Cavour Farmer Elevator COOP Board of Directors, and Huron Community Fire Association for 13 years.

LeRoy married Violet Fischer on March 31, 1956 in Huron. They farmed on the family farm northeast of Huron. Violet passed away in 2008. LeRoy married Beverly Wormstadt on June 11, 2011. She passed away in 2012.

He was baptized, confirmed, and married at the American Lutheran Church, where he was an active member all his life. He was a member of Huron Area Antique Power Association and restored antique equipment on his farm, including his Huber, John Deere, D, AR, BR, L and tank wagon and sawmill. In his later years, he engraved tombstones and stones, making many decorative pieces for friends and family. He was also a proud member of the American Legion.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his 4 sons; Curtis (Joan) of Watertown, Stewart (Shirley) of Huron, Douglas (Brenda) of Huron, and Brian of Wolsey; stepchildren, Jason (Renee) Wormstad of Sioux Falls, Tammy (Greg) Lund of Sioux Falls; grandchildren and step grandchildren, Ashley (Travis) Vesely of Rapid City, SD, Britney (Matt) Friese of Watertown, Chris (Mandy) Mulder of Burlington, Iowa, Nathan (Rachel) Mulder of Rapid City, Lindsey of Brookings, Crystal, Andrea, and Robert Friedrichsen all of Huron and Vanessa (Drew) Landsteiner, and Haley (Travis) Patient of Huron, Simon Wormstad, Lucas and Carter Lund all of Sioux Falls; and great-grandchildren, Zoe, Jasper, Torin, Aislynn, Violet, Marek and Quinn Mulder, Kayden and McKenzie Friese, Callie and Torin Vesely, Markus Lucero, Mikael Luke, and Kayden Patient; sisters, Lois Sollie of Aberdeen and Phyllis Bush of Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; grandson Thomas Matthew Friedrichsen; step-grandson, Chase Luke; sister, Iris Thoreson.
