LeRoy Bockorny, age 83, of Huron, SD, died Monday, February 7, 2011, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 11, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-7:30 p.m. and a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
LeRoy Joseph Bockorny, son of Louis and Rose (Goergen) Bockorny, was born on January 16, 1928, in Woonsocket, SD. He grew up in that area and also attended school there. Following his formal education he farmed with his father.
On November 23, 1950, LeRoy married Florence Esser at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD. They moved to Huron in 1952.
LeRoy worked for Oviatt Dairy and Fairmont Foods, and later for Terrace Park and Land OLakes for many years. In 1973, he went into business for himself where he owned and operated the Bell Motel in Huron until his retirement in 1996. At that time he bought a home at 1756 Idaho Ave. SE.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish. LeRoy was an avid fisherman and hunter, both of which he enjoyed with his sons; playing cards; watching all types of sports; and most of all being with his family and friends.
LeRoy is survived by his wife, Florence of Huron; 3 children, Cindy (Ed) Klein of Rockford, IL, Larry (Peggy) Bockorny of Huron, and Jerry (Janet) Bockorny of Huron; 6 grandchildren, Michael (Kristi) Bockorny of Aberdeen, SD, Rebecca (Kirk) Eckhardt of Lincoln, NE, Monica (Shane) Muse of Rockford, IL, Lisa (Justin) Bock of Rockford, IL, Abby Bockorny of Mitchell, and Todd Bockorny of Brandon, SD; 7 great grandchildren, Matt, Connor, and Emily Bockorny of Aberdeen, SD, Cassidy, Carson, and Carter Eckhardt of Lincoln, NE, and Benton Bock of Rockford, Il; 1 sister, Janice (Eric) Haas of Broomfield, CO; 3 sisters-in-law, Evelyn Pasket of Eagen, MN, Grace (Harry) Durst of Mitchell, and Eileen Bockorny of Howard, SD; and 1 brother-in-law, Martin (Jeanne) Esser of Howard, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, William and Harry; 2 sisters-in-law, Jan Bockorny and Vivian Jones; 2 brothers-in-law, Lyle Pasket and Elwyn Jones.
