Obituary

Leonard Pevestorf, age 93, of Huron, SD, died Monday, March 4, 2013, at Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at American Lutheran Church. Following the funeral service his body will be cremated. Visitation with family present will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Leonard Pevestorf, son of William and Dora (Bassler) Pevestorf, was born on February 29, 1920, on the family farm near Coon Rapids, IA., in Green County. As a small child he moved with his family to Princeton, MN, where he attended country school through the eighth grade. Following his formal education he continued to live and work on the family farm, and he also helped out area farmers plus he moved to Iowa to help his family pick corn. On September 1, 1945, Leonard married Joyce Johnson in Cambridge, MN. They lived and farmed in the Cambridge area until 1948 when they moved to a farm near Alpena, SD. One year later they moved to a farm north of Huron where they farmed until 1962. At that time they purchased a farm one mile further east, near the Jim River. Leonard and Joyce lived there until moving into Huron in 2007. Leonard was a member of American Lutheran Church; NFO; and Moose Lodge. Leonard's pride and joy was his family, especially the time that he could spend with the grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes, and trapping. Even though his livelihood was the farm it was also his hobbyhis heart was always at the farm. He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Huron; 1 daughter, Barb (Tony) Kludt of Miller, SD; 2 grandsons, Kory (Jenilee) Kludt of Sioux Falls, and Kip (Kimberly) Kludt of Brookings; 4 great grandchildren, Brittany Kludt, Jordan Kludt, Carson Kludt and Jayde Kludt; 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Pevestorf of Omaha, NE, and Carol Pevestorf of Huron; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 5 brothers, Howard Pevestorf, Ronald Pevestorf, Floyd Pevestorf, Harold Pevestorf, and Earl Pevestorf; 1 sister-in-law, Annie Pevestorf; and 1 nephew, Duane Pevestorf.
