Leon Edward Boomsma age 52 of Wessington died at Sanford USD medical center in Sioux Falls surrounded by his wife and children. Leon was born March 18th 1971 to George and Phyllis (Verhelst) Boomsma. He grew up in the Broadland Area and attended Hitchcock School. He loved farming and started at a young age. He also worked at numerous other jobs including Dakota pork, SD Wheat growers, and Dakotaland feeds.
It was while working at SD Wheat Growers, he met his wife, Lori Moller, Leon married Lori January 24th 2003 in Huron. Together they were blessed with two children Jordan and Evelyn (Annie) Boomsma.
Leon Loved going to the sale barn, telling stories, driving around, and going out to eat. He especially loved spoiling the family dogs and giving them as many treats as he could. He never liked to go anywhere alone, he would always recruit someone to ride with him wherever he went, whether it was family or neighbors, or dogs.
Leon was very happy that both of his children shared his love and passion for cattle. Once his wife, Lori, asked him why he bought 1 lone cow at the sale barn he told her "Well it looked sad, so I just had to."
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lori, children Jordan Boomsma (Taylor Larson), Annie Boomsma (Lane Christensen) both of Wessington. His siblings, Georgia Sanderson, Gerrit Boomsma, Lauretta (Dave) Vilhauer, Glenn (Jennifer) Boomsma, and Julie (Jeff) Nelson, Aunts Gerry Verhelst and Patsy (Danny) Oswald, Uncle Eddie Verhelst.
