Lena Lee Kringen, age 90, of 1225 Minnesota Ave SW, Huron, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, March 27th at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Jonathan Boehne officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday morning. The family will be present from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Lena Kringen was born Lena Brandenburg on June 18, 1916, to Julius and Bertha (Schmidt) Brandenburg in Jerauld County. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1934. In 1942, Lena went to California to work in the defense plant at Lockheed Aircraft. She also worked in an outdoor Super Market. On March 21, 1942, she married Robert Burnison. After two years they moved back to South Dakota. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. Lena loved her family. She enjoyed playing cards, doing crafts, helping others and enjoying her many friends. On December 28, 1955, she married Alfred Al Kringen. They built and operated a Service Station south of Huron for 21 years, which was called Als Place. In 1976, she moved to Huron and took employment in a ready-to-wear store for two years before retiring. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kathleen (Doug) Uecker of Council Bluffs, IA and Lee Ann (Dale) Pack of Beaverton, OR; 4 step-children, Verda Flannery of Wessington Springs, Dennis (Donna) Kringen of Arizona City, AZ, Sandy (Dennis) Spencer of Rapid City, and Joanne Kringen of Rock Rapids, IA; 5 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; and many step great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Dorothy (Helmuth) Neuharth of Wessington Springs, and Elizabeth Neuharth of Huron; and 1 brother, Harold (Edna) Brandenburg of Huron. She was preceded in death by her parents; her 2 husbands; her son, Robert Bob Burnison of Omaha, NE; 3 sisters, Marian Pratt of Sioux Falls, SD, Alma Thomas of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Minna Lundborg of Portland, OR; 2 brothers, Willie Bill Brandenburg of Huron, SD, and Otto Brandenburg of Huron, SD; 2 sisters-in-law, Rose Brandenburg of Huron, SD, and Ardella Brandenburg of Huron, SD; 2 brothers-in-law, Verne Pratt of Sioux Falls, SD, and Richard Neuharth of Huron, SD; 1 step son, Deuwain Kringen of Rock Rapids, IA; 1 son-in-law, Rod Flannery of Wessington Springs, SD; 1 daughter-in-law, Lynell Burnison of Omaha, NE; and 1 step granddaughter, Kimberly Busby of Wessington Springs, SD.
