Leland Scheel, age 88, of Wolsey, died Saturday, March 11, 2006, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 14th at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening or Tuesday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Tuesday afternoon. The family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home. Leland G. Scheel was born to Carl and Paulina (Bartels) Scheel on May 7, 1917 at rural Wolsey. He attended rural school and lived in Dearborn Township most of his life before moving to Wolsey in 2001. He married Clara Crouch on October 12, 1940 in Rock Rapids, IA and they made their home on a farm in Dearborn Township. He served as a township supervisor for many years and was a member of the National Farmers Organization. He is survived by 2 sons, Monte (Carol) Scheel of Fargo, ND and Gene (Charnelle) Scheel of Wolsey; 3 grandchildren, Greg (Odette) Scheel and Andrea (Ken) Strauss both of Fargo, ND and Darla (Corey) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; 4 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Drew, Nick, and Mathieu Scheel all of Fargo, ND; 1 sister, Elva (Robert) Hebron of Westland, MI; 2 brothers-in-law, Raymond Symes of Rapid City and Carroll Crouch of Fergus Falls, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara on November 17, 1979, 3 brothers, Orville, Marvin, and Vernon, and a grandson, Mark Scheel. Casket bearers will be Greg Johnson, Kathy Johnson, Marlin Kohlmeyer, Valerie Kohlmeyer, Greg Scheel and Corey Johnson.
