Leland Allen, age 80, of 1809 Illinois Ave. SW, Huron, died Sunday, April 23, 2006, at his home. His body has been cremated and there will be no services. Leland Jay Allen was born on December 8, 1925, to Louis and Lulu (Mattke) Allen at Huron, SD. He grew up in a large family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters - Leland being the second born. He remained in Huron until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy on February 29, 1944. He was stationed at Treasure Island in San Francisco, CA, and the South Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on February 11, 1946. On May 11, 1945, Leland married Patricia Ann Threadgold, of Huron, at San Francisco, CA. They lived in Huron after Leland was discharged from the U.S. Navy. They relocated to Whittier, CA, in 1951, where they settled and raised their 2 daughters, LeeAnn and Randi. Leland worked as an auto body mechanic and retired from Urich Motors in Whittier in 1985. Leland and Patricia returned to Huron in 1988. Leland was a fix-it, repair-it guru who enjoyed all aspects of home repair. He saved everything he came across knowing that one-day he would need that particular item for a repair project, even if it was 30 years later. He had an artistic nature where he could change an everyday item into a creative work of art. He loved gardening, and he would spend hours pruning his yard to the point of barrenness, promising more blooms and fuller branches the following year, which it always did. He also loved to spend time fishing with his family and friends, from putting the first lure on the line to reeling in an empty hook. He would go pheasant and duck hunting whenever the opportunity arose. Lelands sense of humor prompted witty responses in his daily conversations. Everyone who met him considered him a friend with a charming personality. He will be sorely missed by family and friends and everyone who came into contact with him. He is survived by 2 daughters, LeeAnn (Patrick) Jones of Fullerton, CA, and Randi Allen of Long Beach, CA; 2 grandchildren, Scott (Lacey) Jones of Florissant, CO, and Jodi Brandon of Jupiter, FL; 2 brothers, Gary (Gigi) Allen of Huron, and Ron Allen of Huron; and 2 sisters LaJean Howland of Huron, and Jackie Dehaven of Brookings. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia on December 21, 2000; 1 brother, Everett Allen; and 2 brothers-in-law, Dean Howland, and Tom Dehaven.
