Lela L. Maxwell, age 96, of 874 Illinois NW, Huron died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. She is now safe with Jesus.
Her body has been cremated and her Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Lela Louise Rush was born to James E. and Lillian (Endter) Rush on July 9, 1912, in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. She attended school in Bonilla, SD, and graduated from high school in Tulare, SD.
Lela married Ray A. Maxwell on January 23, 1932, in Redfield, SD. She and Ray lived in Tulare and in Iowa before they moved to Huron. To them was born a son Gordon. As a young woman, Lela accepted Jesus as her Savior, and she lived for Him and was active in local churches for the rest of her life.
She is survived by her son Gordon and daughter-in-law Marjorie of Leslie, Arkansas, and by four grandchildren: Kim and Karisa of Phoenix, Arizona, Kevin of Louisville, Kentucky, and Kelli of Edmonton, Alberta Canada, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
Lela was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray in 1995; and her two brothers, Fred & Ira Rush.
Memorials may be directed to the building fund at Byron Bible Camp of Huron or to Sunshine Bible Academy, Miller, SD.
