Lawrence Robert Runge, age 88, of Wessington, SD, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Sanford (USD) Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD surrounded by his family.

His funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington, SD with burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Wessington.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a scripture service to begin at 7:00 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.

Lawrence Robert Runge, the son of August and Bertha (Plasmier) Runge, was born on January 17, 1928 in Arco, MN.  He moved with his family to a farm south of Wessington, SD in 1943 at the age of 15.

Lawrence married Bonnie (Bonita) Cavenee on December 15, 1948 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington, SD.  They had two children.

Lawrence farmed south of Wessington for ten years.  He then moved north of Wessington and continued to farm.

Lawrence was a member of the St Joseph's Catholic Church in Wessington.  He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Miller. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's many activities.

Grateful for having shared in Lawrence's life are his wife, Bonnie of Wessington, SD; daughter, Verna Yarnall of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Larry (Tracy) Runge of Rogers, MN; five grandchildren, Jessica (Scott) Loarie of Corte Madera, CA, Kristi (Herb) Tousley of Minneapolis, MN, and Nick, Matt, and Katie Runge; great-grandchildren, Madeleine Loarie and Harrison Tousley; two sisters, Leona Hedge of Wessington, SD and Gloria Mundt of Shakopee, MN; sister-in-law, Shirley Runge of Wessington, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, August and Bertha Runge; four sisters, Violet Wells, Lorraine Mehling, Jean Langbehn, and Betty Hanson; and three brothers, Donald, Norman, and Richard Runge.
