LaVonne M. Walter, age 88, of rural Cavour, SD, died Sunday September 23, 2018, at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Holy Trinity Catholic Parish with burial at St. Martin Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26 from 5-7 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present. A Scripture Service will begin at 7 p.m.

LaVonne M. Lowery was born on November 3, 1929, to Charles and Marie (Delvaux) Lowery in Huron SD. LaVonne attended school and graduated from Cavour High School.  She also attended the St. John's School of Nursing in Huron, SD.

LaVonne married Arland Walter on December 29, 1948, in Cavour. The couple lived and farmed in rural Cavour their entire lives.

In addition to raising her children, LaVonne worked as a nurse's aide and operating room technician at St. John's Hospital for 19 years, at the Beadle County Extension Center and as a secretary for Huron Parks and Recreation.

LaVonne had a strong faith and was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.  Her 4-H leadership spanned four decades.  In 1959 she and her husband formed the Richland 4-H Club of Beadle County.  She was also very involved in 4-H judging and spent many hours presenting workshops and judging record books.  She thoroughly loved working with young people. She was inducted into the South Dakota 4-H Hall of Fame in 2002.

LaVonne's family was everything to her. She cooked fabulous meals and never forgot birthdays, anniversaries, and all special occasions.  She also enjoyed gardening, crafts, quilting, crocheting, sewing, and cooking.

She is survived by 3 sons, Stephen (Jodi) Walter of Huron, Keith Walter of Cavour, and Gregory (Diane) Walter of Huron; 3 daughters, Darial Loof (Todd Sorensen) of Sioux Falls, Laura (Greg) Gogolin of Rosemount, MN, and Paula (Rick) Diegel of Steele, ND; 12 grandchildren, Shane (Amanda) Walter, Brandon Walter (Corrie Holt), Desirae (Troy) Hovdestad, Lance Loof, Chase (Brittany) Loof, Lincoln Walter (Samantha Smith), Nick Walter, Ben Gogolin (Alexandra Rosenbaum), Mackenzie Gogolin (George Boettger), Brittany (Marion) Hernandez, Beau Diegel, and Trey Diegel; 16 great grandchildren, Kaycee Walter, Stockten Walter, Rose Hoebelheinrich, Mekayla Ray, Anna Ray, Noah Ray, Sawyer Hovdestad, Hudson Hovdestad, Henlee Loof, Ayden Decker, Braycen Loof, Oaklen Loof, Axel Gogolin, Henrik Gogolin, Layken Walter and Leni Hernandez. 3 sisters, Mary Ann Andresen, Denise (Mel) Wise, and Marise Menking all of Stockton, CA.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, Arland; 1 son-in-law, Ivan Loof, and 4 brothers, Duane Lowery, LuVern Lowery, Darrell Lowery, and an infant brother.
