LaVonne Meyers, age 80, of Huron, died Saturday, October 8, 2011, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or Tuesday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. LaVonne Meyers was born LaVonne Charmaine Shepard, daughter of Harold and "Tillie" (Nordby) Shepard, on June 1, 1931, in Huron, SD. She was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church. LaVonne attended schools in Huron, then Forestburg where she graduated from high school. LaVonne was married to Gene Meyers for 18 years. She was employed with Armour & Company for 28 years; Harold's Drive Inn; Taco Johns; Korn & Kones; Fair City Foods; and Wal-Mart. She was a member of American Lutheran Church; and the VFW Forest McMullen Post #1776 Auxiliary. LaVonne was always proud of her family, especially the times that she could spend with her grandchildren, and she not only looked out for their well-being but for others as well. She enjoyed traveling, yard work and flowers, baking, and in the past she was involved in crafts. She is survived by 2 sons, Eugene (special friend J.D.) Meyers of Woonsocket, SD, and Harold (Carla) Meyers of Dalhart, TX; 2 daughters, Rosemarie (John) Delvaux of Woonsocket, SD, and Cindy (Butch) Rathjen of Huron; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 1 grandchild due next Spring; 1 great great grandchild; 1 sister-in-law, Lydia Shepard of Wall, SD; several nieces and nephews. LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sisters; 2 brothers; and 1 daughter-in-law. "A special thank you to everyone in the family who assisted in LaVonne's care."
