LaVonne Heimlich, age 85, of Huron, died Monday, June 28, 2010, at StoneyBrook Suites in Huron.
Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Devotional Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
LaVonne Heimlich was born LaVonne Jean Holt, daughter of Victor and Edna (Richards) Holt, on January 10, 1925, in Brookings, SD.
On July 3, 1948, LaVonne married Richard Heimlich in Brookings. They lived in various cities before settling in Huron in 1959.
She was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Huron for 52 years.
LaVonne served in the U.S. Navy Waves from May 17, 1945 until her honorable discharge on June 24, 1946.
She graduated from SDSU in Brookings with a BS degree in 1948. She was a teacher in business science at Volga High School from 1948-49; and also taught at Northwest College of Commerce in Huron from 1962-1972.
LaVonne enjoyed playing bridge or any card game, visiting with her coffee buddies, and could always be found whistling around.
She became a resident of StoneyBrook Suites in Huron in 2003 and resided there until the time of her death.
LaVonne is survived by her four daughters, Billie Howell of Arlington, TX; Bonnie Schulte of Brookings, SD; Bobbie (Randy) Greenway of Rapid City, SD; and Beckie Jungemann of Huron, SD; ten grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard on November 14, 1999; and 1 granddaughter, Samantha Greenway.
