LaVilla Pearl Martens, age 74 , of Huron, SD passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.  Her Memorial Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Welter Funeral Home. A Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 PM.

LaVilla Pearl Borkirchert, the daughter of Emil R. and Irene (Voegele) Borkirchert, was born on July 7, 1948, in Aberdeen, SD.  She attended school and graduated from Roscoe High School. She also attended Nursing School in Omaha, NE and received her degree as an LPN.  LaVilla worked as an LPN at several nursing homes and as a Hospice nurse in the Omaha area for 30 years before her retirement.

LaVilla married Stephen Martens on December 10, 1971, in Wessington, SD. The couple made their home in Omaha, NE for many years before moving to Huron, SD in 2009.

LaVilla was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.  She was a farmgirl and enjoyed the outdoors.  LaVilla enjoyed crocheting and fishing as well.

Grateful for having shared in LaVilla's life are her husband, Stephen of Huron, SD; her son, Michael Lee Martens of Omaha, NE; 2 daughters, Chrystal and Erica Martens both of Huron, SD; 4 grandchildren: Christopher, Brandon, James, and Stephen Martens; 2 Brothers-in-law: Robert (Bonnie) Martens of Minnetonka, MN and Scott (Mary) Martens of Watertown, SD;  brothers, and several nieces and nephews.

LaVilla was preceded in death by her parents; and cousin, Melvin Borkirchert.
