LaVern Weide, age 82, of La Habra, CA, passed away on December 10, 2012. His body has been cremated and his family had a memorial service in California. A burial of his cremated remains was at 1:45 pm Tuesday, January 8, 2012 at Wessington Cemetery in Wessington, SD. There will be no visitation. Welter Funeral Home in Huron was in charge of the South Dakota services. LaVern Weide was born in Revillo, SD on August 4, 1930 to Amil and Emma Weide. He joined the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. Before he shipped out, LaVern met Myrna Thompson of Wessington on a blind date. He returned on leave in 1951 and married Myrna. The two then headed to California. LaVern and Myrna have two sons, Bruce and Brent. In the 1950's, LaVern built their family cabin on the banks of the Colorado River. LaVern worked in banking and was comptroller for Western Off Shore Drilling. Following retirement, LaVern did what he had always wanted to do; he became a handy man LaVern loved to fix things. LaVern is survived by his wife of 61 years, Myrna of La Harbur, CA; sons, Bruce (Pat) Weide of Montana and Brent Weide of Oregan. LaVern was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Adeline Wagner.
