Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the Welter Funeral Home. Our father, Laurrell Clarence Rogers, was born in Paullina, Iowa, on October 16, 1925 to Clarence Peter Rogers and Ruth Mary Schmidt and died at age 87 in Huron, SD, September 2, 2013, after a hard fought fight with all of his medical illnesses of many years duration. Dad was raised in Huron during the "dirty 30's" learning the cattle business and auctioneering from his father, "C.P", hauling livestock and driving long haul trucks for most of his working life. He also owned Larry's Drive-in Liquor in Huron for 20 years. He met his sweetheart, Marilyn Glee Snyder at Huron High School and engaged her before enlisting in the Navy, where he served during WWII at the Guantanamo Naval base in Cuba as the base radio operator. After the war, Dad married Mom on June 16, 1946 and had three children, Roxey Ann Kutil (Jerry), Randy Lee Rogers (Jan), and Susan Marie Yakus (Ron). Dad lived to hunt and fish, but during his later retirement years, mainly fish for walleye with Mom on the Missouri River at Big Bend Dam, camping in their fifth wheel trailer with their beloved dog, "Ginger". He loved his boat and his fishing, spending five days out of seven at "the river". Dad is survived by his wife Marilyn and brother Richard Rogers of Kennewick, Washington, as well as his three children, eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. We wish to thank Dr. Robert Hohm for the many, many years of dedicated service to Dad as well as Dr. Cy Haatvedt for his excellent surgical care of Dad. Many thanks to the nurses and aides at Sunquest Healthcare Center and Violet Tschetter Memorial Home during Dad's final days. We will miss you, Dad.
