Lauretta Eggleston, age 92, of Huron, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
Her funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 11, at First Presbyterian Church in Wolsey with burial at Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6-8 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.; or Friday morning one hour prior to the service.
Lauretta Eggleston was born Lauretta Belle DuBois, daughter of Roy and Nellie Belle (Phillips) DuBois, on June 12, 1917, in Hitchcock, SD. When she was a child she moved with her parents to the Wessington area. She graduated from Sand Creek High School in 1935.
While attending high school, Lauretta met Jay Eggleston, and on December 31, 1938, they were married in Mitchell. They farmed and ranched in Sand Creek Township until moving into Huron in 1994.
She was a 52-year member of the Wolsey Presbyterian Church; Sand Creek Club; Vernon Club; and the Neighborly Get Together Club.
Lauretta was an avid gardener and card player. She loved cooking breakfast or meals for anyone who came by whether they had two feet or four. Lauretta loved the outdoors, canning, knitting, and spent many hours throughout the years crocheting. She gave every family handmade dish-cloths and placemats for every Christmas. She faithfully kept a diary every day. She loved getting her entire family together whenever possible and loved listening to the laughter. Lauretta and Jay spent many winters with friends and family in California. She went with Jay to many Cribbage tournaments. She helped teach every grandchild how to play cards. Holidays were filled with Pitch playing fun. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Lauretta loved to listen to Country Music and the music of Daniel ODonnell.
She is survived by 2 sons, Eldon (Carol) Eggleston of Virgil, and Dennis (Marilyn) Eggleston of Wessington; 5 grandchildren, Kristi (Larry) Neuharth, Scott (Jennifer) Eggleston, Jamie Eggleston and friend Lori Liebing, Darren (Kimberly) Eggleston, and Brandee (Jason) Schwartz; 17 great grandchildren, Michael (Tara) Eggleston, Kayla Neuharth and friend Jayme Stienblock, Allen Neuharth and fiance Ashley Lorenz, Stephanie Eggleston, Kimberly Eggleston, Patrick Eggleston and friend Miranda Minske, Randy Neuharth, Meagan Eggleston, Josee Schwartz, Ashley Eggleston, Karly Eggleston, Alyssa Schwartz, Cory Eggleston, Emily Eggleston, Richard Schwartz, Jackson Eggleston, and Jayden Eggleston; 3 great great grandchildren, Kailynn Eggleston, Morgan Eggleston, and Rylan Eggleston; 3 sisters-in-law, Velma DuBois of Washington, Macel Cameron of Chamberlain, and Elma Kipper of Washington; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay on November 26, 2000; 2 brothers, Max DuBois and Glen DuBois; 1 sister-in-law, Edith DuBois; and a nephew, Donald DuBois (one- year ago).
