Larry Whites, age 59, of Iroquois peacefully passed away after a short battle with cancer Monday, August 10, 2015 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. His funeral will be 10:30 am Friday, August 14, 2015 at Faith Mennonite Church in rural Iroquois with burial in St. Paul's Catholic Cemetery in Iroquois. Visitation with family present will be from 5-7 pm Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with a 6:30 pm prayer service; or one hour prior to the service at the church. Lawrence Alan Whites was born on May 30, 1956 to Hugh and Evelyn (Davis) Whites in Huron. He attended the Iroquois Public School. He was raised as a farmer and loved to work the land, especially with his horses. Larry was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on March 1, 1987 and always stayed faithful to his vows. He liked to write and tell stories that showed his great sense of humor. Larry was also known for his great memory and ability to recall dates of historic event. Larry made friends all over the Midwest from all walks of life, especially the Hutterite and Amish communities. He often made the comment recently that he was living the best years of his life. Larry is survived by his brother, William (Joan) Whites of Iroquois; his sister, Carol (Dave) Green of Sioux Falls; nieces and nephews, Renea Nordquist, Jennifer Davidson, John Whites, Christopher Green; great nieces and nephews, Mya Davidson, Spencer Johnson, Austin Johnson, Max Davidson, Gavin Whites, Parker Green, Elliot Green; aunt, June Whites of Aberdeen; special son, Jeremy (Jennae) Smith of Yale, their children Shane and Taylor; close friends, Bryson (Katelyn) Ensz of Iroquois, Marshall (Camille) Wiebe of Iroquois, John Wellnitz of Iroquois; Lonnie (Carolee) Penner of De Smet, Roger (Brenda) Nichols of De Smet; and all his Faith Mennonite family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Whites; one niece; and many aunts and uncles.
