Obituary

Larry Gordon Sweany, age 70, of Watertown, SD and formerly of Huron, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at the Sanford (USD) Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

A private family graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery, Huron.

Larry Gordon Sweany was born on November 7, 1950 to parents Charles and Luella (Lehr) Sweany in Huron, SD.  Larry attended Wilson Grade School and graduated from Huron High School. Larry also attended a year of college at South Dakota State University.  Larry worked as a baker for the Metz Baking Company for over 40 years. He also worked for Spartan Electronics for a few years until his health forced him to retire.

Larry married Deborah Huber on March 3, 1973 at the First United Methodist Church in Huron, SD.

Larry was a member of the Baker's Union and served as a union representative. He was a cat lover who enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing video games, and collecting coins.  Larry loved to watch old movies, especially science fiction movies and was a big Star Trek fan.  Larry loved to spend time with his family and friends. Being a grandpa was one of the most important things to him and he enjoyed every minute he spent with his grandkids.

Grateful for having shared in Larry's life are his wife Deborah of Watertown, SD; two sons, Michael (Janice) Sweany of New Lenox, IL and Andrew (Christy) Sweany of Portland OR; four grandchildren, Lexi, Zach, Luella, and Ava Sweany; brother, Kenneth Sweany of White, SD; sister Faye McFarling of Lincoln, NE; brothers in-law, Erv (Kerry) Huber of Huron, SD and Vern (Gail) Huber of Virginia Beach, VA; sister-in-law, Judith (Richard Bryant) Toelle of Pierre, SD; nieces, Stacy (Jeff) Dougherty,  of Sioux Falls, SD, and Kati Huber and  Valerie (Bo) Foley both of Virginia; nephews: Cory (Erika) Huber of Huron, SD , Brenden Huber and Devan (Kayla) Huber both of Minnesota, and Chris and Sam Huber also of Virginia; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Luella; his parents-in-law, Earl and Velma Huber; and nephew, Toby Huber.
