Larry Dean, age 69, of Huron, SD, died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at his home. His memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at Welter Funeral Home with military honors by Huron Veterans Council. Memorial visitation with family present will be Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the service. Larry Leland Dean, son of Wilbur and Ellen (Estervig) Dean, was born on September 7, 1943, in Los Angeles, CA. He moved with his parents to Huron in the early 1950's and attended school and high school in Huron. On February 17, 1961, Larry entered the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on July 10, 1964. In 1967 Larry married Clara Ann Roberts and the couple lived in Downey, CA. Clara died 2 years later from cancer. Beginning in 1970 Larry lived in various cities in California and worked as a drummer for a jazz trio which performed throughout the area. He moved to Hill City, SD, in 1982, to Denver, CO, in 1983, and to Huron in 1985. His many interests included assembling model airplanes, woodworking, and word puzzles. He was an avid reader his entire life. He is survived by 1 son, Leland (Brenda) Dean of Huron; 1 daughter, Kristina (Rodney) Maez of Whitaker, CA; his father, Wilbur of Kansas; 1 sister, Linda Scheinert of Huron; step-brother, Jerry Gascoigne of Tulsa, OK; half-sister, Susan (Jim Schmidt) Neitzert of Aurora, CO; half-brother, Steve Gascoigne of Rapid City, SD; 8 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Larry Williams of Oroville, CA. He was preceded in death by his mother; his wife, Clara in 1969; step-sister, Judy Williams; and brother-in-law, Dale Scheinert.
