Lance C. Peterson, age 61, of Hitchcock, SD passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Per Lance's wishes no formal funeral service will be held; but his children would invite you to join them in celebrating his life at an open house memorial on Friday, January 21, 2022 from 4:30-7:30pm at the Hitchcock Community Center. Please come to this casual event and share stories with his family and enjoy a light lunch.

Lance was born to Marvella (Martin) and Harlan Peterson at Huron, SD.  He was a member of the Bonilla Church. He grew up on the family farm near Bonilla and lived in Beadle County most of his life. He graduated from Hitchcock High School in 1978.

Lance married Jodene Wieting in 1978 and from this marriage, one child Amber was born. In 1983 he married Tena Block and gained another daughter Tasha. From this marriage two more children were born, Jayme and Kristina.

Lance worked several farming and trucking jobs over the years. He worked for Selland Trucking, Winter Trucking, Petersen Trucking, Wheat Growers and in his later years Peterson Farms and VanBuskirk Farms.

In Lance's early years he loved hunting and throughout his life he has spent a lot of time tinkering around in the garage, being the jokester of the family, riding his Harley, camping and fishing. He always loved fishing on the river and looked forward to the yearly Peterson camp-out at West Bend.  Most Saturday nights you could find Lance at the racetrack helping his son Jayme work on his racecar. He always made sure Jayme's car looked good and ran well! He was the person the kids called when something wasn't running right, and he would drop what he was doing to make sure it got fixed.

He is survived by his four children; Amber (Chad) Erdmann of Little Falls, MN, Tasha (Robert) Stahl of Huron, Jayme (Dena Martin) Peterson of Highmore, and Krisy (Chris Brenner) Peterson of Woonsocket and a bonus daughter Kristin (Patrick) Van Buskirk of Hitchcock; 13 grandchildren: Austin, Aubrey, Aleca, Jaylin, Summer, Autumn, Reese, Dannyn, Harley, Cooper, Kayanah, Barrett, and Ella Rose; 3 Bonus Grandkids: Karter, Sawyer, and Carson;  6 siblings: Sharyl (Dick) Thomas of Burbank, Don (Kay) Peterson of Huron, Sharlene (Tom) Gilbert of Hitchcock, Terri (Reed) Bixler of Hitchcock, Lori (Kent) Jungemann of Wolsey and Layne Peterson of Hitchcock; and several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Caesar.

He was preceded in death by his parents; several aunts and uncles; nephew Travis Bixler; bonus Grandson Caden and Special Friend Ronnie.
