Kory D. Farstad, age 57, of Huron, SD, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 18, 2017 surrounded by family and friends at the Huron Regional Medical Center.
His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron, SD, with burial at a later date.
Visitation, with the family present, will be from 5-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 21 at the Welter Funeral Home, with a prayer service to begin at 6:30 p.m.; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church on Wednesday.
Kory D. Farstad, the son of Raymond and Virginia (Simon) Farstad, was born on November 2, 1959 in Lemmon, SD. Kory grew up on the family farm near Watauga, SD, attended school in the area, and graduated from McIntosh High School. Kory then attended the Rapid City Technical School and received a degree in Auto Body. Kory worked as a machinist for Terex Manufacturing for a time before moving to Horizontal Machining and Manufacturing Inc. in Huron. He worked at HMMI for 20 years retiring in 2014.
Kory married Mary Clemetson on August 21, 1982 in Huron, SD. The couple made their home in Huron, SD and raised their three children.
Kory loved fishing, hunting, and spending time with his dogs. He loved tinkering around his shop and sharing his mechanical skills with his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Kory loved life. He had a huge heart and was never willing to hold a grudge against anyone. Kory knew the meaning of sacrifice, and was willing to do whatever was needed to make sure his family was taken care of.
Grateful for having shared in Kory's life are his wife, Mary of Huron, SD; three children: Tina Farstad of Huron, SD, Lisa (Geoff) Gogolin of Cavour, SD, and Levi (Alicia) Farstad of Omaha, NE; five grandchildren: Gracie, Drayven, and Nicholas Fonder, and Judson and Brantley Gogolin; great-granddaughter, Sophia; his brother, Dave (LaNita) Farstad of Waverly, MN; two sisters, Sharon (Don) Johnson of Spicer, MN and Kristi (Byron) Utter of Mobridge, SD; Grandma Pat and Grandpa Don Wenzel of Wessington Springs, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
Kory was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Virginia; and brother Tim Farstad.
