Obituary

Korlas Ann Winter, age 88, of Mitchell, and formerly of Huron, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, at the Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Korlas was born on April 13, 1927 in Huron to Elmer and Mabel (Myers) Smith. She grew up on a farm west of Huron and graduated from high school in Virgil in 1945. She was united in marriage to Donald Winter on December 10, 1950 at the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. Shortly after their wedding, Don and Korlas moved a house onto the Winter farmstead and farmed there until their retirement in 1990. They continued to live on the farm until 2010 when they moved into assisted living. Korlas was a devoted farm wife and helped Don with many jobs around the farm. She enjoyed baking and cooking and was known for her homemade pies, raised donuts, and home cooked meals that she shared with family and their many friends. Korlas enjoyed harvesting apples with her grandchildren every fall along with raising vegetables in their large garden and canning them at the end of the season. She also spent time sewing and embroidering. Korlas was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron and was active in the ladies circle for many years. She is survived by 2 daughters, Mary (Rod) Clarambeau of Letcher and Marla (Don) Jenks of Tripp; 4 grandchildren, Casey Jenks of Tripp, Carly (Aaron Willis) Jenks of Mitchell, Shana (Mark) Jensen of Letcher, and Kyle Clarambeau of Letcher; 1 sister-in-law, Marie Smith of Annandale, MN; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald on December 27, 2014; 1 son, Myron Winter in 1986; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis (Ronald) Ross; and 2 brothers and 1 sister-law, E. Keith (Wanda) Smith and William Smith.
