Kevin R. Peterson, age 67, of Iroquois, SD passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022 at the Huron Regional Medical Center.

His funeral service will be 11:00 am Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iroquois, SD with burial at the Maplewood Cemetery in Iroquois.

Visitation, with the family present, will be from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Tuesday, March 8 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD; or visitation one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Kevin R. Peterson, the son of Phillip and Violet (Brenner) Peterson, was born on May 9, 1954 in Huron, SD.  He attended grade school in Huron until he became a foster child to Wes and Clarice Rounds and began attending school in Iroquois.   He then graduated from Iroquois High School in 1973.

After graduation, Kevin moved to Fullerton, CA and began working for the Ward Store. Kevin then moved back to the Iroquois area and worked for Biever's Bulk Station.  He then worked construction for Gerhardt Boetel and Dave Metter.  Kevin also worked for Armour's Food, Trussbuilt.  He drove truck for Kasperson's and UBC.  Kevin then owned his own truck and drove for Parkhurst Trucking.  He finished his career driving a mail route for the  U.S. Post Office for over 25 years.

Kevin married Tammy Reese on September 22, 1979 in De Smet, SD.  The couple made their home in Iroquois, SD.  From this union four children were born.

Kevin enjoyed hunting, and watching movies and wrestling on the television. He also loved listening and singing to 80's Rock. When Kevin was younger, he took great pride in restoring his 1968 Pontiac GTO. He also enjoyed talking on CB's.  His CB handle was the "Bushman".  Kevin was a hard worker, but he always enjoyed the times he spent with his family and friends attending family reunions and grilling outdoors.  One of his favorite family traditions was "Spaghetti Night" with the kids.  Kevin was a jokester and his Donald Duck impression was top notch. When Kevin was asked how he was doing, his reply would be with a twinkle in his eye, "Ornery as ever".

Grateful for having shared in Kevin's life are his wife Tammy of Iroquois, SD; his children: Shannon (Shandy Stahl) Cooper of Iroquois, SD, Terry Peterson of Bismarck, ND, and Jessica (Dallas Haight) Peterson of Clark, SD; three grandchildren: Ashlyn and A.J. Wipf and Reese Peterson; three sisters: Linda (Larry) Barker of Reno, NV, Ginger (Bob) Collier of Rapid City, SD, and Coral Therriault of Lancaster, CA; four foster sisters: Kathy (Darold) Verch of El Segunda, CA, Marlys (Dean) Peskey of Iroquois, SD, Jackie (Bob) Zell of Salem OR, and Sue Dillon of Carthage, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Kevin was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; daughter, Tiffani; foster parents, Wes and Clarice Rounds; brothers-in-law, Ron Therriault and Russ Dillon; and mother and father-in-law, William and Dorothy Reese.
