Kevin Hein, age 59 of Iroquois, SD passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron after a short battle with lung cancer. His funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with a private family burial service of his cremated remains to be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 17, at the Welter Funeral Home; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Visit Kevin Donley Hein, the son of Sheldon and Jacquelyn (Meyer) Hein, was born on August 26, 1955 at St. John's Hospital in Huron, SD. He attended grade school in Cavour, SD and graduated from Iroquois High School in 1973. Kevin also received a degree in Electrical Maintenance from Mitchell Tech in Mitchell, SD. Kevin worked at Exxon Kerr-McGee in Gillette, WY from 1978 until 1991 before moving to Iroquois and farming on the family farm until his health forced him to retire in 2015. Kevin also worked for the Rounds Brothers Trenching, the maintenance department at the college in Huron for 3 years, PBM in Howard, SD, and Alt Custom Farms driving truck. Kevin was married to Julie Boggs from 1978 until 1997. Later he married Kathy Anderson for two years. Kevin was very active in promoting organic farming. He loved riding motorcycles, writing, and collecting rocks. Grateful for having shared in Kevin's life are his two daughters, Emily (Kyle) Liddeke of Sioux Falls, SD and Ashley Hein of Mitchell, SD; his sister, Machelle (Greg) Keating of Carpenter, SD; nieces and nephews: Shana Keating, Brianne (Mitchell) Forst, Dustin (Katie) Keating, and Trevor (Nicole) Keating; five great-nieces and great-nephews: Jace and Kade Forst, Violet Keating, and Miley and Madelyn Keating; his good friends: Richard Alt of Forestburg, SD and Steven Hein of Iroquois, SD and several other close friends and relatives. Kevin was preceded in death by his parents, Jackie in 1978 and Sheldon in 1990.
