Kenneth L. Kenny Timm, age 74, of 868 Kansas Ave SE, Huron, died Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at the Southridge Nursing Home at Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be 2:00 PM Monday, February 5, at the American Lutheran Church with Rev. Steven Brandsrud officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery with Military Rites by the Huron Veterans Council. Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening or Monday morning at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Monday afternoon. The family will be present from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Sunday afternoon at the funeral home with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM. Kenneth L. Timm was born on October 10, 1932, to Robert and Helene (Beck) Timm, Jr. at Huron, SD. He attended rural grade school and graduated from Huron High School in 1950. During his time in high school he was a Golden Gloves boxing champion. On September 1, 1950, he entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and served with Company K, 196th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He was honorably discharged on July 31, 1952. On November 23, 1956, Ken married Shirley Stanosheck at Huron. He attended and graduated from Huron College in 1956 where he played football and ran on the track team. He then coached basketball, track, and softball in St. Lawrence, and coached football, basketball and track in Elk Point for a number of years He returned to Huron in 1960 and started Pheasant Realty in Huron and also was a substitute teacher for many years in the Huron Public School System. On January 18, 1975, Ken married Maggie Baker at Huron. He refereed football, basketball, and was a track starter for 50 years. As a coach he took many AAU track boys to several state and national track meets. He was a member of American Lutheran Church, and a 50-year member of the William Reaves American Legion Post #7 of Huron. Ken was a loving father of Shawn, Shireen, and Ryan, and a loving grandfather of Jesse, Garrett, and Grant. He spent many years providing care for his mother, Helene. He also loved to hunt and fish. He is survived by 1 son, Ryan Timm of Miami Beach, FL; 2 daughters, Shawn Kranz of Tucson, AZ, and Shireen (Greg) Walsh of Savage, MN; 3 grandchildren, Jesse Kranz, Garrett Walsh, and Grant Walsh; his mother, Helene VanBuskirk of Huron; 1 brother, Robert (Betty) Timm of Huron; 1 sister-in-law, Mildred Timm of Huron; and aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert in 1954; 2 stepfathers, George Doering, and Ralph VanBuskirk; and 1 brother, Floyd Timm.
