Obituary

Kenneth Schroeder, age 84, of Tyndall, SD, formerly of Huron and the Iroquois area, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center at Tyndall. His funeral service will be at 2:00 PM Friday, November 3, at Trinity United Methodist Church at Iroquois with Rev. Kris Larson officiating. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery at Iroquois. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening and Friday morning at the Welter Fuenral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday afternoon. Kenneth H. Schroeder was born on January 24, 1922, to Herman and Amelia (Rowedder) Schroeder at Manning, IA. He graduated from 8th grade at Manning and then moved with his mother and brother to a farm near Wolsey, SD, where he worked for area farmers. On May 4, 1945, he entered the U.S. Army and served for 12 months in Japan. After his honorable discharge on December 10, 1946, he returned to Huron. He started working for Swanders Bakery as a city bread salesman. On July 17, 1949, Ken married Phyllis Koster at Huron. They moved to a farm 6 miles north of Iroquois in 1954 and continued to farm until 1989 when he retired and they moved back to Huron. Due to failing health, they moved to Avon, SD, in April of 2006, and both Ken and Phyllis became residents of the Tyndall Good Samaritan Center in August of 2006. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Tyndall; 1 daughter, Monica (Terry) Schultz of Avon; 4 grandchildren, Scott Schultz, Nathan Schultz, Amy Schultz, and Natalie Schultz; and 2 sisters-in-law, Lurane Schroeder of Huron, and Florence Schroeder of Manning, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 daughter, Jeaniene Kay Schroeder in 1951; 1 son, Gary Lee Schroeder in 1991; 3 brothers, Lewis Schroeder, Merlin Schroeder, and Norman Schroeder; also 1 brother and 1 sister, both in infancy; and 1 sister-in-law, Alma Schroeder.
