Obituary

Ken Meyer, age 62, of Huron, SD, died Monday, January 17, 2011, at his home.

His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 20, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery and Military Rites by Huron Veterans Council.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with family present from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m.; or Thursday morning one hour prior to the service.

Kenneth John Meyer, son of W.H. Whip and Edna (Niewohner) Meyer, was born on September 20, 1948, in Little Falls, MN. As a small child he moved with his parents to Huron where he attended school and graduated from Huron High School in 1967. He then attended college at Northern University in Aberdeen.

On January 13, 1969, Ken entered the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was honorably discharged with the rank of CW4 on February 27, 1971.

He returned to Huron and worked with his father at Meyer Modernizing Company, Inc. Ken bought out his father and took over operations of the business in 1986.

On August 15, 1986, Ken was married to Suzanne Moeding. They have made Huron their home since that time.

He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church; life member of American Legion William Reaves Post #7; life member of VFW Forrest McMullen Post #1776; member and past president of Elks Lodge; life member of Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation; member of National Turkey Foundation; Ducks Unlimited; Beadle County Sportsmans Club; and member and past president of Huron Hunting Club.

His many interests included fishing, boating and working on his boat, and socializing with his many friends.

He is survived by his wife, Suzanne of Huron; children, John Ford Meyer of Las Vegas, NV, Johnny (Kim) Richman of Huron, and Tina (Brett) Pearson of Huron; grandchildren, Karlee Marie Richman and Boston Maverick Pearson aka 'The Mav' as per Grandpa Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
