Kaylene Hammond, age 81, of Huron, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Huron Regional Medical Center in Huron. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Spring 2022.

Kaylene Ann Hammond was born on August 1, 1940 in Huron, South Dakota to parents Chris and Florene (Hurd) Beck. As a child, her family moved to Newport, Oregon, where she graduated from High School.

Kay returned to Huron after graduating high school, where she met Pat Hammond. Kay and Pat were married in Huron, and to this union two children were born, Anita and Calvin. Kay was the Operations Manager for Ball Aero Aviation for 25 plus years, she then worked at Innovative Industries as the logistics manager for 15 years. She retired from Fair City Glass after a few years there. Kay was always a hard worker who took care of her family, they were her priority.

Kay was "not Betty Crocker." She was adventurous and very independent. She loved airplanes and held her private pilot's certificate. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her dogs and horses. She could be found snowmobiling, water-skiing, riding motorcycles, fishing or driving fast cars. Kay was always up for an adventure, she was FUN! Kay had a passion for buying and selling anything and loved the art of haggling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pat; and her sister, Jean Iverson.

Grateful for having shared in her wonderful life are her children, Anita (favorite son-in-law Terry) Loterbauer of Troy, MO and Calvin Hammond of Meckling, SD; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; her sister Donna (Paul) Freeman of Huron; several nieces and nephews, including special niece Shelly (Kevin) McDonald of Huron; special fur-babies, Charlie and Tinker.
