Katherine LeGrand, age 75, of rural Virgil, SD, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, at Virgil United Methodist Church with burial at Virgil Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m.; or Monday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Katherine LeGrand was born Katherine Louise Stroeck, daughter of Adolph George Stroeck and Serena Blanche (Anderson) Stroeck, on October 13, 1937, in San Antonio, TX, Bexar County. She received her education and graduated from high school in San Antonio. On March 7, 1953, Katherine married Clayton Harry LeGrand in Sequin, TX. The couple lived in San Antonio until 1955 when they moved to a farm near Virgil, SD, where they have resided to the present. Katherine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; and Virgil United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Clayton of rural Virgil; 4 children, Deborah (Douglas) Quiram of Aberdeen, George (Joni) LeGrand of Virgil, Jack (Diana) LeGrand of Wessington, and Robert (Kila) LeGrand of Aberdeen; many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and 1 sister, Georgie Linke of Mifflinburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert William Stroeck; 1 brother-in-law, Robert Linke; aunts and uncles.
