June "Judy" Wood-Helseth, age 89, of Huron, SD, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at SunQuest Healthcare Center. Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Huron Christian Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Tuesday, May 27, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. or Wednesday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. June Helseth was born June Mae Lippert, daughter of Lamont and Hazel (Banker) Lippert, on April 13, 1925, in Sioux City, IA. She moved with her family to Huron as a child, then to Custer, SD. After her father died the family returned to Huron where she attended and graduated from Huron High School in 1943. She worked as a waitress until the time of her marriage. On January 21, 1946, Judy married Merritt Wood in Huron. The couple made their home in Huron. Over the years of her working career Judy worked for Brown Printing Company, Lampe Grocery Store, and many years as a salesperson for Sears Roebuck Company until her retirement. Merritt died in 1985. On June 25, 1987, Judy married Kenn Helseth in Huron where they also made their home. Ken died on August 2, 2012. Judy was a member of Huron Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible school. She was a very religious person and presently held the longest-time membership of the church at 87 years. She also was a member of Huron Area Senior Center where she did volunteer work; and TOPS. Her many interests included traveling, sewing, mentoring people and helping them with everyday parts of life. Judy is survived by her adoptive daughter, Judy (Delbert) Klicker of Wolsey; 1 sister, Fern Smith of Watertown; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands, Merritt Wood and Kenn Helseth; 5 sisters, Dorothy Lippert, Beatrice Reilly, Irene Barnes, Margaret Humphrey, and Joyce Newland; and 4 brothers, Donald Lippert, Raymond Lippert, Charles Lippert, and Fredrick Lippert.
