June Peterson, age 82, of 767 Illinois Ave. NW, Huron, formerly of Alpena, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008, at the Huron Regional Medical Center. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 26, at the United Parish of Alpena Church with Rev. Sarah Herman officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Alpena. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 and a Prayer Service at 7:00, or Saturday morning one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be directed to the United Parish of Alpena Church. June Peterson was born June Marie Berg on July 29, 1925, to Carl and Clara (Wolfe) Berg in Arriba, CO. In 1935, she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Woonsocket, SD. She graduated from Woonsocket High School in 1943. Following completion of high school she moved to Omaha, NE, where she attended and graduated from Beautician School in 1945. She returned to Woonsocket and began work as a hair stylist. On August 4, 1947, June married Merrill Peterson in Rapid City, SD. The couple moved to Alpena where they have been life long residents. She continued her work as a hair stylist for several years in Alpena and for several years as a hair stylist at the Huron Nursing Home. June and Merrill wintered in Apache Junction, AZ, for many years. She was a member of the United Parish of Alpena Church; Owens-Kunze American Legion Post #116 Auxiliary, and the UMW (United Methodist Women). Her many interests over the years included fishing, camping, watching baseball, watching and playing golf, word find puzzles, and playing cards especially bridge, solitaire, and canasta. She is survived by 5 children, Kay (Frank) Knoll of Denver, CO, Mark (Karen) Peterson of Alpena, Randy (Cindy) Peterson of Alpena, Bob (Diane) Peterson of Alpena, and David Peterson of Mitchell; 11 grandchildren, Kari Farrell, Alan (Candace) Knoll, Jay (Sheila) Peterson, Jessica (Blaine) Anderson, Laura Peterson, Tyler Peterson, Jeff Panek, Aaron Panek, Adam Panek, Nikki (Kevin) VonEye, and Kari (Jose) Peterson; 11 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Ruth Berg of Woonsocket, Golda Tebay of Alpena, and Doris Huether of Chamberlain; 1 brother-in-law, Julian Peterson of Huron; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merrill on April 10, 2002; 1 grandson, Brian Peterson; 4 brothers, LeRoy Berg, Laverne Bernie Berg, Calvin Berg, and Vernon Berg; 2 sisters, Lois Miller, and Patsy Kopfmann; 1 brother-in-law, Rex Miller; and 1 sister-in-law, Gladys Berg.
