June Morrill, age 82, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly of Huron, SD, died Saturday, March 3, 2012, at Golden Living Center Covington Heights in Sioux Falls. Her funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 7, at American Lutheran Church in Huron with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home; or Wednesday afternoon one hour prior to the service at the church. June Morrill was born June Hammond, daughter of Albert "Pat" and Elizabeth (Metter) Hammond, on May 6, 1929, in Lisbon, ND. As a small child she moved with her family to the Cavour/Iroquois area, then to Huron where she attended school and Huron High School through the 10th grade. June worked for a period of time at a grocery store in Huron and that is where she met her future husband, Edward "Dean" Morrill. They were married on July 15, 1946, in Huron. June worked for Geyerman's Ladies Clothing Store in Huron as a salesperson and bookkeeper until ill health forced her retirement in 1972. Her husband, Dean, died April 8, 1990. In 1992, June moved to Sioux Falls to be near her daughter, Cathy. In 2002 June became resident of Golden Living Center Covington Heights in Sioux Falls. June and the residents at the Living Center shared a mutual, loving friendship and that caring bond was important to all of them. June was a member of American Lutheran Church when she lived in Huron. Her many interests included cooking and every year during the holidays she would prepare meals and deliver them to those less fortunate. She enjoyed knitting, gardening, dancing for which she and Dean won awards. Due to her immobility, as a result of her illness, she became a master at operating her VCR and watching marathon movies on television. June is survived by 1 daughter, Cathy Morrill of Sioux Falls, 1 grandson, Mitchell Rowe of Sioux Falls; 1 sister, Eva Kinner of Pierre; 1 half-sister, Anita Lutabauer; 1 half-brother, Calvin Hammond; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dean; and infant brother; and 1 brother-in-law, Bob Kinner; and 1 sister-in-law, Myrtle Morrill. June died early Saturday afternoon at Golden Living Center Covington Heights in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 82 years, 9 months, 27 days.
