Julia M. Miller, age 94, of 1251 Arizona Ave. SW, Huron, and formerly of Alpena, died Monday, November 1, 2004, following a recent illness at the Huron Nursing Home. Her funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Friday, November 5, at the United Parish Church of Alpena with Floyd and Norma Mills officiating. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery at Alpena. Friends may call Thursday afternoon and evening at the Welter Funeral Home or prior to the service at the church Friday morning. The family will be present from 7:30 - 9:00 PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the United Parish Church of Alpena. Julia Miller was born Julia May Scott on January 28, 1910, to George and Mattie (Comstock) Scott in Hyde County. She lived in several towns in her earlier years as her father was a railroad man. After her father died in Roscoe, SD, in 1918, she moved with her mother and step-father to Alpena. They later moved to a farm south of Alpena where Julia and her sisters and brother lived for a period of time. She went to high school at Alpena until her parents moved to Scio, OR, at which time Julia moved to Huron to live with her aunt and uncle. She worked in a Candy Kitchen for a period of time and then moved to Clear Lake, IA, to live with her sister, Laura. She later moved back to Alpena and worked for her future mother-in-law, Emma Miller. On December 29, 1927, Julia married Glenn Earle Miller at Woonsocket, SD. She was baptized in the Methodist Church at Alpena on May 27, 1936. She was a member of the Rebbeka Lodge at Alpena for many years, and a member of the United Methodist Women at the Alpena Methodist Church. She is survived by 2 sons, John Edward Miller and his wife Darlene of Huron, and Dr. Thomas Earle Miller and his wife Elnora of North Platte, NE; Johns first wife, Barbara Noel of Huron; 5 grandchildren, Julie (Kim) Kistler of Phoenix, AZ, Carrie (Brandt) Bruner of Henderson, NV, Jeff (Ren) Miller of Huron, Tamera Kaye Miller (Mike Daigle) of Aurora, CO, and Dr. Renee (Dr. Larry) Piper of North Platte, NE; 11 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren, Deb (Denny) Meng of Hill City, Leslie (Craig) Skattum of Rapid City, Noreen (Alan) French of Hitchcock, and Tom (Susan) Welch of Huron; and 1 sister, Gladys Podrobsky of Lyons, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; 2 brothers, George Scott, and Clarence Scott in infancy; 3 sisters, Beulah Griffin, Laura Kerr, and Daisy Shimanek; and 1 grandson, Tim Miller.
