Judith A. Ashby, age 75, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Her graveside service will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, Sept 6, 2018 at the St. Martin's Cemetery in Huron. Visitation will be from 1-7 pm on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Welter Funeral Home with the family present from 5-7 pm followed by a scripture prayer service at 7 pm.

Judith Ann Cantonwine, the daughter of Harold and Evelyn (Newland) Cantonwine, was born on April 8, 1943 in Sioux Falls. She grew up and attended schools in Huron, graduating in 1961. Judith met Eugene Ashby and they were married on December 2, 1961 at St. Martin's Church in Huron where the couple made their home. Judy worked as a clerk for the Beadle County Auditor's office as well as helping Gene with their rental properties.

Judith was a member of St. Martin's and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish in Huron. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was also an avid reader and participated in a book exchange with high school friends for many years. Judy and Gene enjoyed riding their motorcycles and attended several Sturgis Rallies.  They also had many happy times at their home in Lead, SD.

Grateful for having shared in Judith's life are her two sons; Jeff (Kerri) Ashby of Rapid City, SD and Anthony Ashby of North Carolina; 6 grandchildren, Jordan (Danica) Hoffman, Erin (Nathan) Reginato, Elise Ashby, Emarah Ashby, Epiphany Ashby, and Noah Ashby; 3 great-grandchildren, Josiah, Ella, and Emmie Hoffman. Brother-in-law Charles (Teri) Ashby of Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Janice Merrick of Sioux Falls, SD and several nieces and nephews. Judith was preceded in death by her husband Gene on April 30, 2018; her parents; and her sister, Wanda Crowell.
