Juanita H. Van Tour, age 98 of Phoenix, AZ, formerly a long time resident of Huron, died on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Her Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Huron, SD. with burial at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Juanita H. Andersen, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Christiansen) Andersen was born on January 11, 1913 in Badger, SD. She attended school in Badger and Arlington, SD, and graduated from Huron High School in 1930. She then attended two years at Huron College. Juanita married Robert Van Tour on December 31, 1931 in Huron, SD. They resided in Minneapolis, MN untill 1944, at which time they moved to Huron, SD, living, working, and being involved in the community until 1958. They moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1958 to manage the Papagayo Restaurant and partner with the Valley Del Sol establishment until 1972 when Robert retired. In addition to working with her husband in the business he managed, Juanita had positions in the First National Bank in Huron, and the Bank of Arizona in Phoenix. Robert died in 1975. Juanita was active in the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and the Wisconsin Synod Lutheran Church in Huron and Phoenix respectively. Juanita had varied interests including: Bible Studies and Ladies Aid, crocheting afgans for family members, scrabble, sports, opera/plays, and crossword puzzles. Grateful for having shared in her life are her 3 daughters, Jaqueline Klinger, of Mesa, AZ, Dr. Darlene Van Tour, of Apple Valley, MN, and Janell Adams, of Mitchell, SD; 6 grandsons: Steve Bales, Richard Bales, Mike Kruse, David Kruse, Terry Adams, and Kyle Adams; 8 granddaughters: Linda (Kruse) Shipman, Lori (Bales) Pechholt, Peg (Adams) Brookes, Kim (Bales) Schnabel, Joni (Adams)Wegehaupt, Carol (Kruse) Blaine, Trish (Adams) Aadland, and Karen (Kruse) Newmark; 31 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; a niece and 2 nephews. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund and Anna Andersen; her husband, Robert Van Tour in 1975; brother, Malvin Andersen; sister, Virginia (Gustafson) Norris; and 3 grandchildren, Jeremy Bales, Travis Bales, and Suzanne Sladek.
