Joyce Marvel, age 75, of Huron, SD, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at her home. Her body has been cremated and her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, at Welter Funeral Home with inurnment of her cremated remains the the Restlawn Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Memorial visitation with family present will be Sunday, August 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home. Joyce Marvel, daughter of Einar and Olga (Anderson) Peterson, on June 16, 1938, in Huron, SD. She lived with her family on the family farm in the Frankfurt and Hitchcock area until 1942 when they moved to Cavour; then to a farm 4 miles east and a half-mile north of Huron. She attended country school, 2 years at Huron High school, and graduated from Cavour High School in 1956. Joyce was united in marriage to Roger Marvel in Huron. They lived in Huron for a short period of time, moving to Lubbock, Texas, for 2 years, then returning to Huron where she has lived since that time. Joyce was a homemaker who also worked at various jobs throughout her life. She was a member of several card clubs; volunteer for HRMC Homecare and Hospice; and involved in Huron Relay for Life. Her many interests included spending time with her family, reading, puzzles, baking, cooking, and Chicago Cubs baseball fan. She is survived by 3 children, Pam (Mark) Luckhurst of Huron, Doug Marvel of Huron, and Jill Marvel of Huron; 3 grandchildren, Tyler Luckhurst, Jordan Luckhurst, and Matt Marvel; 1 brother, Gary (Virginia) Peterson of Huron; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother, Dennis Peterson; 2 sisters, Marilyn Anderson and Connie Thomas; and daughter-in-law, Debbie Marvel.
