Joyce Hattie Johnson, age 80, of Huron, SD, died on Tuesday May 10, 2011, at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. Her Funeral Service will be 1:30 p.m., Friday, May 13, 2011, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, SD, with burial at the Maplewood Cemetery in Iroquois. Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Thursday night; or one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Joyce Hattie Brooks, the daughter of William F. and Mary E. (Liddle) Brooks, was born on April 16, 1931 in Iroquois, SD. She attended school in the Iroquois area. Joyce married Richard Bonnes on September 13, 1947 in Huron, SD. They had 6 children. Joyce worked as a waitress for Cub Lunch and various other restaurants. She also worked at Ravens Inc. in Huron and managed a greenhouse. On November 14, 1980, Joyce married Edward Johnson in Huron, SD. Joyce enjoyed cooking, fishing, camping, reading and traveling. She loved to travel to Oregon and visit the ocean. Joyce loved to garden and could grow anything. She was Tiger Woods' biggest fan. Grateful for having shared in Joyce's life, are her 2 sons, Michael Bonnes of Huron, and Gerald (Edna) Bonnes of Tacoma, Washington; 2 daughters, Kris Bonnes of Huron, and Mary (Larry) Wentland of Nampa,ID; a step-daughter,Vicki (Joe) Zelmer, of Mitchell, SD; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 15 step- great grandchildren; brother, Richard Brooks, of Portland, OR; sister, Jean ( her friend Bill) Layton, of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Bonnes in 1974; her second husband, Edward Johnson in 2009; son, Frederick Bonnes; daughter Cheryl Bonnes; brothers, Donald and Billie Brooks; sister, Nita Turner; a sister in infancy, Mary Brooks; and her step-son, Jim Johnson.
