Obituary

Joyce Lydia Brown, age 84, of Huron, joined her heavenly father on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron.

Her body has been cremated and her memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the Huron Baptist Church.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.  Welter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joyce Lydia Hilton, the daughter of Daniel and Bertha (Haack) Hilton was born on April 8, 1932 in Rapid City, SD.   She grew up in the western side of South Dakota until 1945, when her family moved to Woonsocket, SD in 1945 where she graduated 8th grade.

On September 10, 1949, Joyce married Milford Brown Sr. in Huron, SD

Joyce was a housewife and mother until 1970.  She worked at the Colonial Café and Bakery for four years and the VFW for ten years.  Joyce was so proud when she received her GED in 1968.  Her most prized accomplishments were her seven children: Linda, Milford, Sally, Debra, Pamela, Paul, Amy,  and all of her foster children (to many to mention).

Joyce was a member of the Huron Baptist Church.  She enjoyed playing Pinochle, dice, Yahtzee, and gardening.  Joyce loved to cook and bake, especially for the holidays.  Her home was always open to friends and family.  Joyce was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Grateful for having shared in Joyce 's life are her son, Paul (Berta) Brown of Huron; 5 daughters, Linda (special friend, Manuel Jaramillo) Matthisen of Lansing, MI, Sally (Scott) Cerkoney of Huron, SD, Debra Regnier of Redfield, SD, Pamela Brown of Richmond, VA, Amy Sanderson of Huron, SD, and special friend Kim Brown of Huron, SD, whom Joyce considered an honorary daughter; 24 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Eleanor Nelson Davy of Huron, SD; and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Milford; son, Milford Brown Jr.; 1 granddaughter, Hillary Skye Regnier; son-in-law, Martin (Skip) Matthisen; step-mother Betty five sisters, Ella Mae, Edna, Dorothy, Barbara, and Norma; three brothers: Lionel, Alfred, and Eugene; and one step-brother Edward.
