Obituary

Joseph P. Pullman age 85, of Wolsey, SD died Saturday, August 25, 2007, at the Huron Nursing Home. His funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Monday, August 27th at St. Johns Lutheran Church at Wolsey with Rev. L. Scott Spiehs officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Welter Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 to 8:00 pm with the family present from 5:00 - 6:00 PM. Joseph P. Pullman was born July 10, 1922 at rural Freeman, SD to Paul A. and Sara [Kleinsasser] Pullman. He attended rural country school near Freeman. As a young man he worked on a thrashing crew that traveled throughout the Dakotas. He then took the train to the state of Washington where he worked in the orchards. He then entered the United States Marines on July 25, 1942 at Seattle, WA. and served during WWII. He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1945 at San Diego, CA. Joe then returned to the Freeman area and worked for his brother Paul. He married Margie Alma Schmeichel on April 2, 1947 on the Schmeichel family farm north of Huron, SD. They farmed south of Lake Byron for 4 years and then in 1951 they moved to a farm NE of Wolsey, SD. They retired from the farm in 1978 and moved into the town of Wolsey and he helped his sons at Pullman Well Drilling. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and Hershman-Gordon American Legion Post #59 at Wolsey. He loved to hunt and fish, play cards, tell jokes and storys, give treats to his grandchildren when they stopped to visit, watch baseball and boxing on TV, attending auctions esp. farm and household auctions, and going to the coffee shops to visit and drink coffee with his many friends. Joe is survived by his wife: Margie of Wolsey; one son: Lannie [Marsha] Pullman of Wolsey; one daughter: Delcinnie [Dave] Wientjes of Miller; one daughter-in-law, Helen Pullman of Wolsey; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Anna [Pete] Tschetter of Bridgewater and Mary Ovre of Canton. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons: Jeraine on June 4, 2000 and Raynie on June 30, 2004; and three brothers: Andrew, Clarence, and Paul P.
