Joseph W. Kelsey, age 70 of Huron, SD, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2014 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron, SD. A private family service will be held at a later date, with burial at the Fairview Cemetery in Lane, SD. Joseph W. Kelsey, the son of Warren and Ida (Cunningham) Kelsey, was born on November 22, 1943 in Alpena, SD. Joe grew up in the Lane area and attended school there. Joe farmed in the Alpena and Wessington area for 25 years. He also worked construction for Schweigert Construction Company in Gregory, SD for 25 years before retiring in 2007. Joe moved to Huron in 2009. Joe married Virginia Anderson in March of 1963. To this marriage were born three children: Rita, Joel and Bill. Joe was always interested in the weather and would keep a daily log. He also enjoyed talking with friends and relatives on the phone. Grateful for having shared in Joe's life are his three children: Rita (Donnie) Cleveland of Huron, SD, and Joel (Jennifer Boomsma)Kelsey and Bill Kelsey, both of Wessington, SD; eight grandchildren: Erick Moser, Meagon Moser, Jake Kelsey (Brandee), Jerritt Kelsey, Lane Kelsey, Josh Cleveland (Lori), Brooke Kuehl, and Ashley Cleveland; two great-grandchildren: Maleya Moser and Knox Kelsey; two brothers: Jim Kelsey of Wessington, SD and Jeff (Karen) Kelsey of Alpena, SD; three sisters: Joyce Kirsch of Hillsboro, OR, June (Pudge) Shefner of Plankinton, SD, and Janet (Bill) Pruitt of Sutherlin, OR; and several nieces and nephews. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and special friend, Betty Allerdings.
