Joseph Johnson, age 50, of Edgerton, MN and formerly of Huron, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, June 18, 2026 at Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, MN. His funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, June 26, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with burial to follow at St. Martin Cemetery in Huron. Visitation, with his family present, will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at Welter Funeral Home. 

Joe was born on July 29, 1975, in Brookings, SD, to Emery and Patricia (Smith) Johnson. The family moved around to different places but eventually called Cavour, South Dakota home. He attended high school in Iroquois, graduating in 1994. Joe’s present job was truck driver for Pipestone County and Legler Milk, prior to that he spent many years at Fey Industries, Joe held many different job positions over the years, he was truly a jack of all trades.

Joe lived his life for those he loved. If he wasn’t working, he was spending time with his family. Joe always said his greatest accomplishment was his kids, and he never missed an opportunity to let everyone around him know just how proud he was of all his kids. His family never had to wonder how he felt about them. He made it known often, loudly, and without hesitation. His love showed up in the long workdays, the miles traveled, the late nights, the early mornings, and every seat he occupied in every auditorium, gymnasium, field, and event. He didn't just provide for his family; he poured his heart and soul into them.

Joe enjoyed camping at Lake Shetek with his “lake family” often spending nights by the fire, having a few drinks (crown apple sprite), side-by-side rides, boating, DIY projects, home improvements/remodeling, and tinkering, fixing or driving anything with wheels.

He is survived by his fiancé Amanda Brandt of Edgerton, MN; his children, Cooper Johnson of Huron, SD, Chase Johnson of Huron, SD, Reegan (Cameron) Heil, Trenton Heil, Jaxon Johnson, and Kaylee Jo Johnson, all of Edgerton, MN, his siblings, James (Tara) Johnson of Sioux Falls, Jerry (Sandi) Johnson of Huron, and Anna (James) Cribben of Huron; and his mother, Patricia Johnson of Yuma, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Emery Johnson and his cousin Casey Johnson; and all of his grandparents.
